Hogwart’s Halloween

It was Emily’s idea to do the Hogwarts theme this year.  Last year we just picked random costumes out of the Dress Up Box and Emily was adamant that we needed a theme.  Love her.  She has devoured the Harry Potter books the last couple of years and wanted to be Hermione – a perfect fit since she’s kind of a book worm and a smarty pants herself.

Megan was happy to jump on board and had no problem being ‘Ginny’ – especially since Ginny is a little sporty, being on the Quidditch Team.

Emily needed Matt and Luke to be Harry and Ron… pretty much as an extension of her own costume, but they were more than willing.  10 years ago, Ryan and Katie were Harry Potter and Hermione for Halloween and so we already had Matt and Luke’s costumes which have gone untouched for the last decade.  Matt loved ‘getting the scar on’.

Luke was happy to be Ron because, and I quote… “Ron is the buff guy and he’s funny and he’s scared of spiders.”  For his school Halloween party, though, he went as Harry with scar and glasses.

We had a great Halloween night.  We were excited to Trick Or Treat in our own new neighborhood.  We dropped off Ryan (Prince – The Charming One) and Katie (BYU super fan) off at Ryan’s friends house to go Trick Or Treating and then headed back to hook up with Emily’s best friend from school, Caroline and her mom.   Then we trick or treated up and down a ton of streets surprised at how long the boys wanted to go.  It was a great night.

  • Katie and the Beehive presidency decorating a new Beehive’s door!  Fun stuff.  And some of the Young Women’s basketball team for the Stake Tournament.
  • Beautiful Colorado fall weather.  Bright blue skies and colored leaves… and a low patch of fog settling right over the city – taken after driving Ryan to seminary.

  • A cute picture sent to me by a friend who was watching my boys for me one morning… and a ‘love note’ from a girl in Luke’s class.  Just cute.
  • Emily and Megan dressed in as much RED as they could find for Red Ribbon Week.

  • Emily, Megan, Luke and Matthew signed up for the fall session of YMCA basketball.  Chris coached both Emily and Matthew’s teams.  Matt’s team was so cute.  4 darling little boys.  Matt generally liked being there if he wasn’t thinking about the fact that he  should be playing Wii at home.  That kid!  They were so cute learning their defensive stance and would hold tight even if the other players ran right around them.  The funniest thing was when a player from the opposite team decided he wanted in on one of Chris’ team huddles. It was priceless.  Matt and Luke had games usually in the morning.  Megan’s games were around 1:00 and Emily’s around 2:00 so I’d finish watching Megan’s game and then zip on over to watch Emily play.

  • Beautiful October snow.  Time for Stephens Candy Cane Hot Chocolate!
  • Carving Pumpkins… we tried a gumdrop teeth guy who was supposed to be happy but turned out kind of scary!
  • Fun visiting the kids at their school Halloween parties.  Harry Potter and Ginny – and Luke’s fun apple craft made at the party.

Really this kid wanted to be RON for Halloween because “he’s the funny one”.   Matt was HARRY.  But for his dress up Halloween party at school I asked him if he wanted the glasses and scar just for the day… and he thought it was a great idea.  I brought cut up fruit for party snacks and hung out with the other Kindergarten moms taking pictures and adoring these little guys.  Everything is so exciting in Kindergarten.  Matt was at a friend’s house.  I don’t do a lot of in classroom volunteering because of Matt at home but I do try hard to be at their parties.  Next year I’ll have Matt in school and a lot more flexibility.   Anyway… isn’t he just the cutest little HARRY POTTER?  Love this kid.

At our elementary school they try to stager the party times, which is nice.   Megan’s 3rd grade class party happened to be first thing in the morning.  The kids were so excited! After a group picture, the first activity was a timed group ‘Mummy Wrap’.

I volunteered to do the ‘draw your own’ Halloween Bingo.  My kids love it.  Fun to be with my kids on a fun day.
