Chris’ sisters flew into Frankfurt on Friday morning at 7:30. Chris picked them up and had them back to our house by 9:00… and although they were pretty tired, we convinced them that a day full of shopping and eating on the Hauptstrasse was just what they needed to STAY AWAKE and get adjusted to the new time zone. We parked and walked and window shopped until just after noon. Then we grabbed an outdoor table in the market square and ate our favorite homemade German noodles and sauce at Golden Falke and then ordered some asparagus items since it’s SPARGEL season here in Germany. Chris and I shared a fabulous asparagus soup and Nikole, Ashlyn and Lindsey shared a ‘spargel pancake’… like a crepe filled with asparagus and cheese. It was amazing. I can’t wait to get it again. Chris’ sisters got their first taste of European eating… no ice in the drinks, no drink refills, a LONG time waiting for each course… and paying no or just a little tip. Nikole almost fell asleep waiting for our food to come but as soon as we ate and headed down for some shopping, they all had a little more energy. We did a little damage in H&M and even more in ESPRIT. Chris picked the kids up from school and brought them back to the Hauptstrasse. They were so excited to see their aunts. For a late afternoon snack we got Pomme Frites, hot dogs and/or gelato… our first of way too much gelato for the coming week!
In the early evening we headed to the bridge for a great view of the Heidelberg castle.
The bridge over the Neckar River and entrance into downtown Heidelberg.
Then we climbed the 365? stairs to get to the castle and get the view of Heidelberg.
