3 Word Answers for FHE

For Family Home Evening last night I gave each of the kids an assignment to do.  They worked on it while I worked on dinner.  When Chris got home from a late call day we read our answers to each other and then pulled up my blog through the APPLE TV and had SO much fun looking back 5 years ago at our ALL ABOUT KIDS posts from the beginning of 2009. So fun to record what everybody is up to… but even more fun to revisit them years later.  What’s why I do this blogging thing.

Matthew just colored all over his and then wrote in big letters: I want abs.  I like to play Wii.  That about sums it up.   It’s mostly Luke who is obsessed with ‘getting abs’ but whatever Luke does, Matthew does too so naturally he wanted to write it down as well.

Sunrise

Sunrise-1

Colorado Springs has the best sunrise and sunsets… I guess because of all that blue sky we have here.  I just love waking up and seeing  this beautiful sight out my little kitchen windows every morning.

Luke’s New Year’s Resolutions

For Family Home Evening the kids came up with goals for the New Year.  Luke did not want to be left out but couldn’t write fast enough so he just told me what to write. Love this kid.  Age: 6

  1. Play nicer with my brother and don’t fight.
  2. Get dressed and make my bed and clean my room
  3. Love Jesus every single day.
  4. Never ask Mom if I can play Wii and just play on Saturdays.
  5. Love everybody in the whole wide world … nicely.
  6. No candy.
  7. Do 20 sit-ups every day.
  8. I need to say thank you for more stuff in my prayers.
  9. Read scriptures with my mom while the kids are gone.

The Olympic Training Center

Olympic Training Center-1Olympic Training Center-4

One of the last days of our Winter break we took Grandma and Grandpa and went to explore the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center.  We waited for the hourly tour hanging out in the bobsled and testing our muscles with the weights.  Then we watched a film about the last Winter Olympics – ( in Vancouver!  We were there!!) and then some about getting ready for this Winter Olympics. Then the tour took us around to a few of the training facilities.  It was the perfect time to go and get excited for Sochi.

I’m really excited to watch coverage for the Olympics this year.  It was harder to follow for us while we lived in Germany because we didn’t have any TV – including the military channels.  This year we already have the Opening Ceremonies on the calendar and the kids responsibility charts are going to tie into the Olympics.  Go for the Gold!

It was fun to take a look at the gym.  Red, white and blue inspirational quotes lined the walls.

Bowling with Grandma and Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa flew into Colorado on New Year’s Day and stayed with us until the 6th for a little extended Christmas Visit.  They spoiled us with presents, took us to movies and out to eat, and took us bowling.  It was a great week.  This was the first time we’d been bowling in close to a year… we sure don’t get much practice!! The kids were pretty excited about it.  We ate our pizza and salad at the same time and it was a good set up.  Lots of fun.

While Grandma and Grandpa Johnson were visiting early January, these three men went to work in the garage insulating and putting up drywall in the garage.  It was so helpful to have Grandpa’s help.  Good work, men!
