The Staffords, friends in the Pine Creek Ward, invited us to head to the Annual Labor Day Balloon Glow with them on Saturday night. We parked and walked into the Centennial Park, set out our blankets and talked until it got dark. It was fun that you could get up close to the balloons as they filled up. As a big crowd, we counted down from five and then all of the balloons lit up at once – over and over again. The boys thought it was pretty great. Reminded me of the Balloon Glow that happened each year at Callaway Gardens in Columbus, Georgia.

Emily 6th GRADE
This girl was so excited for Middle School she could hardly sleep the night before school. She’s ready for different classes, different teachers, lockers, riding the bus instead of walking and leaving an hour earlier than last year. She’s organized, optimistic, dedicated, musical, smart, obedient, smiley and ready for a great year!

Emily’s thoughts about her first week in 6th Grade… “ I ride the bus to and from school and I sit with Caroline. The first couple of days I was really excited about our lockers. It was easy for me to remember my locker combination but it was hard for other people. Brianna is my locker buddy. It’s fun having different classes, and different teachers and different people in your classes. I feel older because of all of these things. Even though we’re the youngest in the school I still feel grown up.”
We have two different days. Blue and Silver. First I have Social Studies with Mr. Koch and then a fifteen minute break. Then I have Math with Mr. Thompson. Then lunch at 11:00… All the sixth graders eat in the cafeteria. I usually sit with Akarea and Lily and sometimes it’s Caroline and Sadie and sometimes it’s McKenna. McKenna’s someone I just met but she’s in all my classes. After lunch all the sixth graders go to Literacy. I have Mr. Thompson for the first quarter. Then we got to our first elective. Mine is Technology and then French. Later in the year I’ll have PE, Music, Art, Drama and more. The last class is Cheetah Time which we use to work on homework or read. On Silver days I have Science with Ms. Larmour and then Language Arts with Mrs. Sisk (who is only going to be here for the first quarter because the real teacher just had a baby.) Then lunch, Literacy, Technology and French. My favorite classes are Literacy and French. And my favorite teacher is Mr. Thompson who teaches me Math and Literacy.”

- Social Studies with Mr. Koch
- Math with Mr. Thompson

- Literacy

Silver:
- Science with Ms. Larmour
- Language Arts with Mrs. Sisk

Megan 4th GRADE
Megan completely changed her outfit from the one that was laid out last night and determined to have her hair down even though we both know it’ll be pulled into a ponytail or bun half way through the day. She’s opinionated, determined, athletic, fun, sweet and loving. Ready for a great year!!

Megan’s thoughts about her first week in Fourth Grade. “Luke, Matt and I usually ride our scooters to school and home. It is really hard to control the boys and make them walk fast or ride faster. I give them strikes if they don’t obey. It’s hard to be the oldest one in charge.
My teacher is Mrs. Pecararo. I wasn’t really excited to get her. She’s very nice but sometimes, when people don’t do what she asks the first time, she gets a little frustrated. In class we have an app called DoJo and when were good we get a point and when we don’t behave well she takes away a point. I’m close to the lead. I got to personalize my own monster character for the app. Mrs. Pecararo loves hippos.
My favorite ‘special’ is PE because I love to run and play games. My second favorite special is Music. I’m good at it because we’re playing the piano in music class and I take piano at home. Favorite subject is science or social studies.
Friends are Haylee, Rory, Dillon, Brynnley, and Arabella. At recess I hoola hoop with Haylee, Rory and Dillon. At lunch I sit by Haylee, Rory and Dillan.
Luke 1st GRADE
Luke is so excited for ALL DAY school and to take lunch in his Storm Trooper Lunch Box. He’s silly, happy, smart, funny and ready to learn.

Luke’s thoughts about his first week of First Grade… “My teacher is Mrs. Johnson and she is really really really nice. We have this ladder and the whole class has their name on a clip and we can move it up if we be good. If we be bad we have to move it down. And if we get to the second bottom one then we have to call our parents. The very bottom we have to do something else and call the office and our mom and dad. If you get to the very top then you get a prize… like I did. I got a snake and named it Onyx.
First we take off our backpacks and hang it up and then we get our blue folder and get our green notebook and start copying the words at the board. Once we’re done we color a picture and we tell the teacher what is wrong with the sentence and she does it right. After that we get to do centers and today I got to do art at the paw station and I start at the writing station and then we go to the reading center and then teacher table and then the listening center and then paw center. My favorite is the paw station and that’s when I drew me and a baby turtle.
I like lunch because I have a bunch of good food – especially the muffin that I ate. After lunch someone speaks in the microphone and says if they are done they can go to recess. Before we come into the lunch room then me and Jessica carry the basket of lunch boxes into the lunch room.
I have Music, PE, Chinese, Library. My favorite is PE because we play a lot of soccer outside and we do a lot of fun running games.
My friends are: Xavier, Brooks, Jeremiah, Jack, Adam, Jacob and there is Koa and Brayson and then Awen, Charlie, Samantha, Jessica, Addie, Caroline, Alexis
Matthew KINDERGARTEN
Ryan was the only one who didn’t have school on Monday so he walked down to the Elementary school with us. It was nice that he was there to get Luke settled by his class while I stood by Matt. Matt was super excited all morning about heading to school, his new backpack, walking down the street with Ryan and I… but the overwhelming crowd of 525 students and that many parents standing outside of the school in class rows made him a bit nervous. He looked up at me and said, “I don’t want to go to school. I want to go home with you!” Poor guy. I assured him that this was the worst part of the day and that as soon as he was inside the classroom he was going to love every minute. Principal Shumaker made a few opening remarks and then invited the parents to step to the side and wave to their kids from afar. Matt was pretty unsure about the separation but with one last hug I told him to watch where I was walking to so he could be sure to wave to me. Of course he had a great day and was pretty excited to tell me all about school at the end of the day.
Back to School traditional Cookies and note.
Matt’s feelings about his first week of Kindergarten…“She does a lot of stuff. She does the ABC’s and we end at Z. Her name is Ms. Young. She is nice. It looks like she is having a baby and she is having a baby. I always see it bigger and bigger every day.
The first thing is we do lunch count. Then we do stuff. When it’s after lunch then we play at the playground and after that we go to bed. Then some people fall asleep and we do stuff at the Lego table. It’s always the Red table. And it’s good. We have money that we play with. We have papers and blocks – yellow that we put them on the paper.
And Jacob got to red because he touched someone. If you touch someone, or kick someone, or punch someone, or flick someone then you move your clip to Red. I never move my clip to red… not these ten days. But some people do.
The best thing about school is when it’s lunch count because we don’t have to do anything but just sit. If we say ‘pack’ then we packed a lunch. We got to Chinese class and I learned one but I forgot it. I go to music class and sometimes we sing a song an then we sit criss cross applesauce and sing pat pat clap, pat pat clap and we sing ‘We will, we will, growl too… and then we GROWL.
My Backpack has my name on the top and it has a Darth Vader head.
Some of my friends are Kegan, Laura, Jacob (that’s one of the people that got to red because he cutted his hair) Jayden and Emma. and Ms. Lowe.
