Evening Walk in New Westminster

New Westminster-1

One evening my parents took us to New Westminster to walk along the river – a place where they frequently come together.  It was perfect timing for us because we got to see trains go by, the bridge open up for large cargo ships and a few tug boats. Beautiful weather and a great place for the kids to run back and forth.  I love my parents.  So fun to be hanging out with them.

Backyard Plums

plums-4

My mom has plum trees in her backyard --tons of them – and this is just the time of year they’re ready.  The kids had no problem saying ‘YES’ to climbing trees and helping Grandma pick.  She made several batches of jam while we there.

Spanish Banks

Spanish Banks2-4

I had never been to the Spanish Banks before, and since we were in the area after the Botanical Garden at the University of British Columbia, we thought we’d stop.  It’s so neat to see the view of downtown Vancouver in the background.  The tide was pretty far out and we thought it would be fun to walk out to the water and play in it as it came in.   I’m not exactly sure that it was ‘fun’ but it was an experience.  Walking out we soon realized that we were walking in mud… squishy toe-oozing girl-squealing mud.  It was kind of disgusting but we were sure we were just going through a little patch and that we would be getting to the good sand, soon.  Not so.  We just got further and further into squishy slimy stuff and it was pretty funny to hear everyone let out their distain.  Even so, we made it out to the water.  We just weren’t too excited about the walk back.  Memorable, is what it is, and pretty funny.

Gastown and Canada Place

Downtown Vancouver-14

We had so much fun spending the day downtown Vancouver with Grandma Walton.  I can’t remember the last time I’d been to Historic Gastown so we started there walking down Water Street towards Vancouver’s Steam Clock.  We stuck around to watch the clock for awhile and then wandered down the street slipping into some of the fun touristy stores along the way.  The kids loved all the hats, totem poles, and pretty much anything with a Canadian flag.  The boys especially loved the Star Wars art they found with a native Indian twist.

Megan used her own money to pick out some special rocks and bought some for cousin Molly too.

After muffins, fruit and tasty lemon bread at Starbucks we headed on towards Canada Place. I LOVE Canada Place.  It’s such a unique building jetting out from the water.  So fun to walk along it’s balcony to the very end and back. Loved this day.
