Church at the Chapel across the street from the temple and then a little wandering around the Temple Grounds. I love this Temple! Quite a few of my ancestors married here.
Brian came down to spend the first weekend with us. Always fun to have him around.
Winter Home of Brigham Young
After the Temple we decided to head over to Brigham Young’s winter home. It’s been a really long time since we’ve been here and I’m not sure if the kids had ever been here. Fun to go on the tour and see original pieces of furniture and imagine how they lived. Brigham Young spend four winters in this home before he died.
In 1854, the LDS Church sent families to live in Santa Clara, two miles northwest of present-day St. George. St. George was named in honor of Mormon apostle George A. Smith, (below right) also known as the “Potato Saint” because he urged early settlers to eat raw, unpeeled potatoes to cure scurvy. Interesting!
This is our second year spending some time in St. George over our week long Thanksgiving break. We drove down on Friday and drove back the next Sunday (except for me who flew to my Grandpa’s funeral on Friday). Lots of days to relax, sleep in, exercise at the gym, swim at the indoor pool, watch movies, go out to eat, play baseball at the park, grab some Wild Mango and Sugar Cookies at Swig, eat at the Habit Burger, play 7wonders, go golfing, get a birthday Pedicure, play in the leaves, eat at Pizza Factory, stay up late, go to movies, and play with cousins.
