BYU Football Home Games

One of the most exciting things about being back in the States, and especially in the West, is our relatively close proximity to PROVO!  Chris has been waiting for years and years to have Season Tickets to BYU Football games and decided, with a great home game schedule, that this was the year.  We

The first game of the Season we hosted a BYU BBQ with the Gillespie's, Pattersons, Wilhelms, Abbots and Cooks.  It was a great time… except for the two hour delay and the loss against Virginia.

Emily, Megan and Dad took off on Friday after work for the first home game of the Season.  Even the drive to Utah was pretty exciting for the girls.  They got to stay at Grandma and Grandpa’s house, see some cousins, eat at Café Rio and then head down to the BYU Texas game with Dad, Grandma and Grandpa.  It was a great win.  Chris said that after the game was over the girls were so excited to go down and high five the team. 

Two weeks later it was Katie and Luke’s turn to head to Provo for the weekend.  They got the BYU/Utah game and since they were calling for a CLASSIC ROYAL BLUE crowd, the three of them got new gear for the game.  They went with Lindsey and Haylee who were dressed in Red and cheering for the Utes.  Luke and Haylee talked and talked and made each other laugh the whole game and then the whole way home even though it was midnight when it was over.  It was a depressing loss – but fun for Katie and Luke to be at the Stadium.  Love that Cougar Stadium!!

The whole family travelled out for the Homecoming game against Georgia Tech.  It’s a lot of driving for quick weekend and a BYU game but it sure was worth it.  We ended up seeing Nikole and John and family on our way into town, met Dan and Sarah and family and Amy and Chris at a fun Cornbelly’s the next morning (post coming), headed down to Amy and Chris’ new place for a great dinner and then headed to the game.  This time Grandpa Johnson, Chris, Ryan, Katie, Matt and I got to go.  Matt and I took a little walking tour of the stadium at half time to go see Scott, Elisha, Dan, Sarah, baby Kate, and then over to the student section to hang out with Amy, Chris and baby Jane.  It was such a fun game and a good win!

FIRST QUARTER

Our schedule is different every year, every season.  I think it’s fun to record and remember who did what in the different places we’ve lived – with different times, different activities and kids growing up so fast.

Morning

• 6:45 Reading scriptures while kids eat breakfast and make lunches  (most days)
• 7:00ish Chris leaves for work
• 7:10 Ryan off to the bus for High School
• 7:20 Katie off to the bus for Middle School  (sometimes I drive her to the bus stop)
• 7:25 (Every other day Ryan starts his day with Release Time Seminary – not at the High School)  I share the driving with one other friend.
• 7:45 (Just Fridays) Megan has 3rd Grade Choir Practice before school
• 8:30 Emily and Megan walk to Elementary School
• 9:00 (Every other day Ryan and friends need to be picked up from Seminary and driven to the High School) I share driving between 5 friends so I drive every fifth week.  It’s fun to spend some time with Ryan’s friends.  They love that we listen to Disney Music in the van and they love hangin’ with Luke and Matt.
• 12:30 Luke goes to Kindergarten

After school

• 3:20 Katie gets off the bus and arrives home
• 3:55 Emily, Megan and Luke arrive home after walking
• 4:30 Pick up Ryan from High School Soccer Practice – JV2 team (Monday through Friday)
  • JV2 games randomly on different afternoons and Saturdays
• 4:30 – 5:30 Emily and Megan – Activity Day Girls (1st and 3rd Tuesday)
• 4:30 – 5:30 Emily and Megan – Gymnastics (Thursdays)
• 7:00 Young Women, Young Men – Ryan, Katie and Mom (Wednesdays)
• 9:00 – 3:00 Ryan’s Driver’s Ed Training (Saturdays)

San Antonio with Adam and Marilee

We just had the best weekend.  To celebrate Adam’s 40th birthday we spent a few fabulous days down in San Antonio at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort and Spa. Del and Shelley came over to watch the kids and on Wednesday afternoon Chris and I left and headed to the airport.  Because of a long layover in Denver we treated ourselves to bad Mexican and then hung out in the comfy chairs at the USO watching the news.  On our flight to San Antonio I tried to play Sudoko while Chris peered over my shoulder and couldn’t help give me answers every other minute.  We took a taxi from the airport to the resort and as soon as we arrived and got checked in, we went and found Adam and Mar and caught up until it was really late.   Thursday morning we got up and grabbed a quick breakfast at Starbucks before Chris and Adam left for their first tee time.  Marilee and I sat there and talked for a good hour and then grabbed our stuff and headed for the Spa.  We got our lockers, got into our cozy robes and Spa slippers and hung out in lounge chairs until our 50 minute Swedish massages.  Then we chatted under soft blankets for another hour and then found our way to the aromatherapy room.  Heaven.  We got into our bathing suits and then met the boys at the Restaurant by the pool for lunch.  Delicious food.  The boys checked out the waterslide and then went and got dressed for their second 18 while Marilee and I found the Adult pool and made ourselves comfortable in front of a great view of the golf course and the Texan sky.  We sat and talked for hours and hours about our kids and parenting and the past and the future.  So much fun to be with them.  We’ve know each other half our lives now and they are truly some of our best best friends.   We stayed curled up on our lounge chairs long after the sun moved and put us in the shade.  Adam and marilee’s good friends the Fransens showed up just then and after a bit, we headed back to our rooms to get ready for dinner at 8:00.   We ate at the 18 Oak, one of the Resorts fabulous restaurants and enjoyed amazing food… We got filet minion with some great apps, sides and salads.  Friday the guys headed off to golf again and the girls went to work out and then headed back to the spa for another massage.  Then we met up with the guys for lunch at the Cibolo Moon.  They took off for more golf and the girls headed out to do a little shopping.  Very fun purchases!  That night the Fransens hooked up with family and Adam, Marilee, Chris and I ate dinner at the Sports Bar watching the BYU beat Utah State. Always fun to watch BYU games with Adam and Mar!  Saturday morning we slept in, did a little window shopping at a big mall close by and hooked up with the boys after, yep, more golf.  Then Chris and I headed to the airport.  It was such a fun couple days!!  Thanks for the invite, friends!!
