Canadian/New England Cruise: Heading to Quebec City

Whenever I’m in an airport, I curiously look around to see where all the flights are going –  some of them seem so obscure – and there seems to be flights full of people going there.   Flying to Quebec City felt a little like that.  Who flies to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada?  I was pretty excited.  I’ve always wanted to explore Eastern Canada.

As a retirement present from my Dad’s employer, they presented him with money at a Travel Agency so he and my mom could go on a trip.  When they started talking about an Eastern Canadian/New England cruise I told them to give me the details and we’d see if we could make it work.  And we did.  Who can pass up a cruise, anyway.

We had to leave the house at 5:00am to get to the airport on time, park our car, shuttle in and get through security.  We left Denver, had a layover in Chicago and got on a very small airplane for Quebec City.

We read and slept on our flights and arrived in Quebec City about 5:00pm Quebec Time.  We took a taxi to the Cruise Terminal and were welcomed by my parents as we boarded the boat.  We dropped off our luggage to our room and headed out into the city for an hour before dinner in the dining room.

Quebec City is just beautiful.  We had so much fun wandering out.   This was our first view of the fantastic Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac (a fancy hotel) as we left our cruise ship.

The streets of Old Towne Quebec City were quaint and picturesque.  We wandered down Rue Notre Dame and found ourselves in a cute square facing the Eglise Notre Dame des Victoires church.

We loved this little square, which reminded us so much of Europe.

View of the Hotel from Cote de la Montagne and a view of our favorite Old Towne street: Rue du Petit Champlain.  Beautiful walking around at dusk.

We left the Old Town to head back to our boat for dinner.  It’s one of the best things about cruising – the dinners. (The beginning of Chris’ two dinners and often two desserts vacation.)  After dinner we went outside to walk around and check out the view of the Old City.  Then we took my Mom with us on one more city walk – this time to enjoy it all lit up at night. We headed straight up to the Parc-Montmorency Lieu for a view of our cruise ship.  Holland American’s Veendam.

Then we headed up to the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac and walked along it’s beautiful boardwalk.

Back in our room, Chris was excited to find out that ESPN2 was one of the channels on our little TV – for the BYU game. Mom and Dad came over to watch it with us.    Tanner Mangum pulled out another play that led to a win.   : )
