It was so fun to visit with Emily. She works in the gardens in Historic Williamsburg. She gave us a tour around the garden to show us what they were growing and how they did it in Old Williamsburg times. It was so fun to walk up and down the old street, in and out of shops, watching the marching band, touring properties and taking so many pictures. It was such a beautiful day.
Heidi led us to the BEST sandwich place ever and we ate outside around a table.
Breakfast at Panera and then off to the Metro to do some more sightseeing.
We headed straight for the Capitol Building stopping along the way to enjoy the blossoms. When we approached the Captiol Building a friendly bike riding police man asked us if we needed any help and then joked we looked like some kind of a gang. We laughed and Melissa said no, just moms set free. We laughed and then realized that was the hashtag we were looking for! Our friendly police officer offered to take a picture of the six of us. : ) We headed downstairs and were able to get a tour through the building including a Patriotic video, the Rotunda, the National Statuary Hall and even a trip into the House of Representatives chamber – where the State of the Union address comes from.
Next stop was the National Gallery of Art. We split up and spent 45 minutes walking around the different galleries and then exploring the Visitor’s Shop. I spent most of my time in the French Galleries. Beautiful.

After the National Gallery of Art we went to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. We saw the flag and wandered around for a little while but were quite exhausted by this point. Our hunger pushed us out the door and to dinner at a fun restaurant. And as a perfect ending to the day, we made another trip to PAUL for chocolate macaroons and lemon tarts! We took the metro back to the hotel to pick up our car, and then headed a couple hours to Heidi’s house in Williamsburg, VA. At this point in the trip we already had so many personal jokes that we spent most of the car ride just laughing – especially when Sam called Melissa and she exclaimed a personal joke which had us almost in tears. Such fun memories.
