Emily and Megan’s Pirate and Harry Potter Camps

The girls put a lot of hard work into their Pirate and Harry Potters summer camps this year – and really enjoyed it!  Such a good way to earn Girls Camp and EFY money.

PIRATE CAMP

• Boys and girls ages 3-6
• Tuesday June 12, Wednesday, June 13, and Thursday June 14
• 9:00 – 12:00 each day
• Cost of the camp $45 (including snacks)

HARRY POTTER CAMP

• Boys and girls ages 7-10  (Especially fun that Luke and Matt could be a part of this camp!)
• Tuesday June 12, Wednesday, June 13, and Thursday June 14
• 1:00 – 4:00 each day
• Cost of the camp $45 (including snacks)

The Harry Pottery Camp was amazingly successful.  So many kids signed up and we had to say no to a few in the end because it was just too full.  They made owls, got their letters from Hogwarts, played relays and games in their ‘houses’, did Harry Potter puzzles and word games, made a Hogwarts Bingo board, make potions, played pin the scar on Harry,  played Quidditch on the ping pong table and so much more.  So crazy!! But the girls did such a great job and in the end earned SO much money.

Faith in God Camp

Faith in God camp is a full two-day day camp up at the Black Forest Building, which is up in the woods. The boys rotated from class to class where they earned a different part of their ‘Armor of God’ at each station.  Such a well-run activity.

Learning about THE actual flag that went up with the Space Shuttle Challenger – that was blown up.  The flag (safe in a mylar bag) was found and returned to the Monument Scout Troop 9 months later.  So interesting hearing the whole story.

Matthew’s Soccer Birthday Party–Age 9

We met at the Castle Park to celebrate Matt’s birthday with a game of soccer, some soccer cupcakes, presents, popsicles and some capture the flag on the playground. It was a windy day but the boys had a great time.  : )

Such a great season.  So grateful for our good friend, Coach Richins and all the time and effort he put into working with these boys.

Part of Coach’s Letter to Luke…

Dear Luke,

Man it was fun coaching you this season.  You listen well and want to do exactly what I ask you to do.  You are fearless and always play so hard.  I loved seeing you play with so much energy and watching you play aggressively in the midfield and on defense.  There were two games in particular that I can remember where you were our best player for sure.  I also really liked the way you would push up as a defender and get into the offense rather than just sitting back by the goal waiting to play.  If we lost the ball in the offensive third you would rush back and get into position.

I hope I get to coach you in the fall again. Here are some things I think you could work on over the summer to make you an even better player:

1. Improve your kicking technique
2. Strengthen your left foot even more
3. Dribbling into space rather than into traffic. 

Good luck!  You are doing awesome and will continue to improve with practice!

An exciting start to Summer

Our end of May weather was SO HOT this year.  Usually we are at the pool with sweatshirts for the first few weeks of summer.  On our first day of summer we made a spontaneous trip up to the Miller Activity Center with the Richins – since our Cordera pool wasn’t open yet.  They had the side door open so we could sit in the sun and play in the water inside.  The kids love the slide and being with friends.

School in the Woods Year End Celebration

Fun to celebrate the graduation of the ‘Moose Class’ from School in the Woods.  (Moose Class because of the moose that wandered onto their campus on day this year.)  We gathered at the outdoor classroom and the ‘naturalists’ entered from the forest singing as they came and then told of the great experiences they had this year and how they grew. 

Luke said, “My name is Luke Johnson and will take with me from School in the Woods, a better attitude and greater confidence.”
