Canadian/New England Cruise: Quebec City

Dan and Sarah arrived on board past midnight but met us bright and early to head up to the lido for breakfast at 8:00.  Off the ship the six of us got a taxi which took us out to Montmorency Falls.  The falls, at 275 feet high and 150 ft wide are the highest in the province of Quebec and 98 feet higher than Niagara Falls.

We walked down to the view point where it started getting misty and then walked back.

The taxi driver took us to the top of the falls from which we could see out into the St. Lawrence River.  So fun to be seeing some of Canadian geography I studied as a kid.

The taxi driver drove us back into Quebec City at dropped us off at the Parliament Building and we spent the rest of the day walking through the New Town and Old Town streets.

“The narrowing of the Saint Lawrence River provided the name given to the city, Kebec, an Algonquin word meaning “where the river narrows”  Founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America.  The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec are the only fortified city walls remaining in the Americas north of Mexico, and were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the ‘Historic District of Old Quebec.”  Fun to walk through the Saint Louis Gate in the Ramparts…

Boy, do we love the streets and cathedrals and French signs.  It’s like walking in Paris.

One of my favorite stops of the day was when we walked up to Parc du Bastion-de-la-Reine for the view of the St. Lawrence River, our cruise ship, Old Town Quebec City and the beautiful Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. Gorgeous.

The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac… we wandered around and then went inside to check out the lobby and some shops inside.  Such a cool hotel.  Walking along outside this hotel we talked to some people who pointed out that there are Canadian flags flying throughout the area – this is because this walled city and building are part of a World Heritage UNESCO site.  Otherwise Quebec usually doesn’t fly Canadian flags – just Quebec flags.  Interesting.

Back down to Rue de Petit Champlain.  Love that some of the addresses have 1/2 on them!  Chris seeing some cobblestones word done and stepping right in.

It was pretty windy so here’s a picture of Mom and I holding each other’s hair in place.  : )

After walking a couple miles through the Old Streets of Quebec City, we headed back to the ship, grabbed some late lunch – including an Italian raspberry cream cheese ice cream cone and then played Wits and Wagers in a little section of the Library we frequented most nights to play games.  We went to Dinner at 5:15.  Chilled Berry soup… Thai peanut cilantro salad…Blueberry ice cream Sundae… So good.  During dinner we had the best talks about the Sabbath Day and lots of gospel discussion.  So much fun to be together.

After dinner we went to the Comedian show which was really funny.  Most of the jokes were geared towards older people since they made up 90% of the cruise ship.  I was laughing so hard – especially when my Mom lost it a couple times.  Then I laughed even harder.  Then a couple games of Splendor.  Fun night.
