On Thursday, we took the Jared, Geneva and kids up to the Monastery Ruins on top of Heiligenberg… the mountain facing the Heidelberg Castle.
St. Stephens ruins…
Further up the path is Hitler’s amphitheatre… Thingstatte. It was used as a gathering place for Nazi youth rallies in the 1930s and 40s and was located near Heidelberg because of the number of young people at the university. It is also strategically placed between two ancient monasteries - St. Stephens and St. Michaels - whose ruins are still visible. Word is that the Nazis also placed the amphitheater between the ruins to connect the Third Reich with Germany's history. Ya, he made history all right.
Walking up the huge amphitheatre stairs and up another path led us to the St. Michael’s cloister ruins… Large and extensive… the kids had a great time running around, down stairs, through archways, on walls. It’s a great place to walk around and explore.

I was talking to a lady at the temple the other night (doing laundry together)who just got back from Europe, and she was telling me about the neat place in Heidelberg on the mountain across from the castle. She said she loved Heidelberg, and that I definitively should go to that same place. Looks pretty cool.
