We slept in a bit to recover from our late night, had breakfast at the Resort and then wandered around to explore. We played a bit of volleyball and mini golf and the boys played soccer while the girls went inside to make lei’s.
Making Lei’s
Our Lei ‘instructor’ got them all started for us and then we had to hold the end between our toes and then twist them a certain way.
Hula Lessons We took a little 20 minute Hula lesson from this sweet gal at our Resort. Very fun.
Lydgate Beach
Then off to Lydgate Beach to snorkel and play in the sand. So fun. It was a nice reef enclosed swim area and we had the place practically to ourselves. We played in the sand, played football, snorkeled and enjoyed the sun.
After the beach we headed for Bubba Burgers and got Teriyaki Pineapple Burgers, Peña Colada Milkshakes and fries. We sat out on the balcony looking onto the slow moving traffic and the kids started to wave and shout Aloha to each passing car. They got so much attention, that it kept them busy for a good twenty minutes.
Hoopi Falls
Next we thought we’d find a little hike and cliff jumping location that had been recommended to us – which ended up being one of the many highlights of the trip… especially for Ryan. We parked in what seemed like the middle of a neighborhood and took a little unmarked trail down into a lush forest.
We followed the river downstream for a little while until we got to the waterfalls. From the picture below it doesn’t look like the jump is too far into the pool below but it felt big when you were jumping it. Everyone jumped at least twice. It was so much fun. Once we were in we had to swim downstream a little ways before we could climb out and hike back over. Right at the end, some locals came and really showed us how it was done. It was so much fun and such a beautiful little hike.
Post jumping group shot! After all of our cliff jumping fun, we headed back to the vans and drove to the nearby Costco to pick up some groceries for the week and have some late dinner. Then back to the resort. What a great first day!!
