Kauai Trip–Arrival

Our trip to Hawaii was SO MUCH FUN!  Thank you to our friends, the Richins who brought it up and convinced us that it was the perfect ‘getting out of the ARMY’ celebration.  Chris used these vacation days as his last week in the army and had done all the out-processing just before we left.

We woke up at 5:30 on Sunday morning and left for the airport.  The flight from 10:00 – 12:00 got us to LAX.  We spend our four hour layover at the USO eating free food and counting the minutes before the big flight.  We hooked up with the Richins by our gate, which was quite the big scene!  So excited to be on vacation with them.  The kids expended their energy (girls: hula-ing in the middle of the airport and boys: on a walk with moms) and then we boarded the plane.  It was such a long flight… 5 1/2 hours.  The kids traded places, played games, watched videos and did a little bit of homework.  We got to Hawaii at 9:30 Hawaii time but it felt like 12:30 to us.  Chris went for the rental vans while we collected all 9 of our suitcases (which were free – thank you ARMY).

We drove to the Wyndham Kalau Landing Resort and Scott and Chris went in to check in, get keys and hear the lengthy intro.  When she started handing out leis we woke up all the sleeping kids for a group picture at what felt like 1:30 in the morning.  The lady at the front desk was so welcoming.  What a fantastic place!  So excited for a great week!
