Nurnemberg Christmas Market

Christmas ‘Adam’ we got up and headed straight for the biggest and most well-known christkindlesmarkt (Christ child market… Christmas Market) in Germany… Nuremberg. We took both cars and drove two hours east to get there, bundled up and headed into the heart of the city.  We passed neat bridges, horse drawn carriages, ornate churches, babies bundled up in stroller sleeping bags, lots of dogs (Germans love their dogs) fresh fruit and vegetable markets and lots of Christmas decorations as we walked down the streets.

The Nurnberg Christmas market is famous for it’s huge Children’s market.  We bought a packet of tickets and the kids got to pick two rides they wanted.  The little boys and Megan did the little train ride and loved it.

They all picked the mini Ferris Wheel and fit nicely in one little section.  While they were riding around and around we discovered the most delicious pizza on French bread thingys (below).  Grandma and Grandpa were the firs to order and when they shared we ran over and got in line for one of our own.  We joked that we had to finish before the kids got out because we were not sharing… but instead we ordered another and another and another so everyone could sample.   When we finally walked over to the really fun double decker carousel we realized Grandpa didn’t quite make it over, and sure enough he was back getting a few more to share.  I’m going back next year just for these!

Now THIS is a hot dog.  Everywhere we go the hot dogs are different… but this is the longest one we’ve seen!

These prune and walnut little figurines are a traditional at the Nuremburg market. I’m not sure why anyone would ever need them, but here they are.

I really don’t think he was tired… just bored out of his mind.

Can’t wait to come back to this city in the summertime!
