Grandma and Grandpa Johnson

Grandma and Grandpa Johnson just left on Thursday. We were lucky enough to have them here for a week. They watched the kids while Chris and I went into the hospital to have Matthew. They came to visit in the hospital and brought flowers. They took the kids home so Chris could spend more time with me. They went to a Mother Daughter luncheon (check Katie's blog). They celebrated Mother's Day with us. They made lasagna. They put kids to bed. They went to ballet. They drove the kids to school every morning. They watched Megan and Luke while we made frequent trips to the hospital. They brought books for the kids. They went to gymnastics. They held Matthew in his biliblanket. They went to Ryan's 5th grade success night. They made dinners. They went to Ryan's soccer game. They made a treasure hunt with treats. They watched movies with us. They went to horseback riding lessons. They got up early and let us sleep in.

And we loved having them. Thanks for everything Grandma and Grandpa.

My alien baby.

We've never had a jaundice baby before now.

When we left the hospital on Sunday, Matthew's bilirubin level was at a 9.8. They asked that we come to the hospital on Monday to get it checked again. On Monday it was a 15.6. Too high. Instead of having him admitted to the hospital for treatment under the lights our doctor said we could try out the Biliblanket PLUS Phototherapy System... a blanket plugged into a generator plugged into the wall that lights up his blanket producing the appropriate 'fake sunlight' to help his bilirubin levels go down.

So now he glows. We stripped him down to his little newborn sized diaper and wrapped his biliblanket around him and then covered him with blankets to keep him warm. He hangs out on our brown leather chair without much room to wander since he's basically plugged into the wall.

When the kids came home from school on Monday they thought it was a bit odd that Matthew was glowing. Yep, I said, he's my alien baby. -- And you should see him light up our room at night. He glows in the dark!

On Tuesday we went back to the hospital. His bili level was at 17.1. So another day of the biliblanket. Feeding him while plugged in is getting old. Burping him is even harder. Today we headed back to the hospital. Bili level down to 16.7. Getting better.

Hopefully that means only 24 more hours with an alien baby.

In the hospital

The kids were so excited to come to the hospital they could hardly stand it. Before I had even moved from the delivery room to the mother and baby wing they were here to meet their new little brother. I was holding him as they ran in the room. They crowded around and seemed to simultaneously 'ooooh' and say 'he's so cute!' Luke ran in with just as much enthusiasm only he had no idea what he would find. He was pleased to see me sitting there, and then a little shocked to see what was in my arms. But after pointing and saying 'baby' he seemed just fine with the new turn of events. My nurse handed all the kids "I'm a big brother" and "I'm a big sister" stickers which they wore proudly. Everyone getting their turn to hold the baby definitely took a lot of time but was priceless. A family of eight... sounds perfect.

Matthew's Birth Story... from the both of us

Chris' sixth delivery story...

"After sleeping in Ryan's bed (also known as the pregnancy bed) for the last time, I woke up to my cell phone alarm at 5:00am. I called the Labor and Delivery unit to see if we could come in and they told us they were expecting us. We showered and headed down, arriving at about 6:00am. They were anxiously awaiting us as no one else was laboring at that time. In fact, they had already filled out most of the paperwork, guessing on what our answers were. The answers about use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco were easy for them knowing we were an LDS couple coming in for our 6th baby.

All the paperwork was finally finished in time for shift change. Then the interesting and somewhat obnoxious anesthesiologist came in and talked shop for about an hour, finding just enough time in between his stories, to consent Lisa and give her the epidural. However, we were not through with him. Her bolus dose and subsequent anesthesia was pretty much limited to the right side, with no effect on her left side. They finally got him back a bit before 11:00am and he adjusted the catheter and finally got a bilateral epidural.

Dr. Burchard had been in about 8:00am and consented Lisa and went over the plan for the day. She came back at 10:50am and checked her. She was at a 3 and 50% effaced. She broke her water, and then our nurse hovered over Lisa for the next few hours, providing extremely detailed documentation of everything that happened. At one point, we repositioned Lisa on her right side down, but Matthew instantly dropped his heart rate with the next contraction and had a hard time getting it back up. So I quickly moved her back to her left side and he recovered well over the next couple of contractions. That caused the nurses to stop the slow drip of pitocin just in case he kept having problems. However, we would not need the pitocin to be turned back on. Lisa had regular and steady contractions and seemed to be progressing well. Dr. Burchard checked her about 2:00pm and Lisa was at a 4, 70% effaced, and -1 position. I think Lisa was frustrated she had not progressed farther along.

She kept having regular contractions, but started feeling them from that point on in her left lower pelvis and throughout her back. It was really frustrating to her, and was not helped by the fact she was stuck laying on her left side through everything. She never does well on her back when she is this pregnant because of the compression on her IVC and her inability to breath adequately. We finally tried her on her right side down again (although I was against this decision.) Matthew immediately started acting up again and this time I didn't wait for any nurses to help. I just maneuvered her back to her left side and Matthew once again recovered well over the next few minutes.

The contractions seemed to increase in intensity and frequency then. Dr. Burchard checked Lisa again at about 3:30 and she was at a 9 and 90% effaced, but still at a -1 position. Lisa kept trucking through contractions for about another 40 minutes and then said she had enough. She called the nurse in saying she felt pressure ( the magic words) and the nurse checked her. She was a 10 with a thin rim of cervix left, but she had Lisa push and Matthew's head came right down. So she called Dr. Burchard and set the room up. Lisa was pushing by about 4:25 and it took longer than usual. Matthew was applying extreme pressure to Lisa's left lower ribs with contractions and it stopped Lisa from breathing well during contractions and therefore limited her ability to push. After a few more pushes than she is used to, however, the head was delivered and we were not surprised to see a large amount of curly black hair. One more set of pushes and he was delivered at 4:47pm.

They got him cleaned up and finished up with Lisa over the next few minutes. Again, Elastigirl did not have a tear and did not require stitches. Matthew weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. He is a great looking baby. Plump and healthy and cute as can be. We already love him so much. He got his bath and then started nursing right away, seeming to know exactly what to do. The kids and Grandma and Grandpa Johnson came down about 6:45 and spent some precious time with him. It is so fun to have a newborn. What a great day. Lisa was amazing as usual. She was made to be a Mom. She is the best ever."

This is the sixth 'birth story' Chris has journaled. He gives a fairly accurate accounting of everything that happened but it seems to lack some of the drama and emotion that I have associated with it. Perhaps my additional comments might add some needed insight...

Indeed I have been sleeping in Ryan's bed for the past 5 weeks. It is our old queen mattress and it is ultra comfy and perfect to cradle my huge belly. Ryan was happy to sleep on the floor and be my roommate and while Chris was generally unhappy with the whole 'his bed - her bed' idea was happy that I was not complaining about a backache every morning and also enjoyed being able to keep his lamp on while reading into the wee hours of the morning every night before falling asleep.

We got to the hospital at 6:00am filled with excitement and nervousness. As we followed the nurse into our delivery room I glanced over to see the newborn station in the corner and got emotional for the first of many times that day. Counting down to the end of pregnancy was one thing... but thinking about holding my newborn in a matter of hours was something else entirely. I dressed and got settled on the bed while the nurses got ready for my IV. I hate the IV. The first nurse tried unsuccessfully digging around in my vein not realizing that she had bent the catheter or something like that. The other nurse tried my right arm while my left arm throbbed to the point that everything got dizzy and I threw up in the handy little container they grabbed just in time. Ya, me and pain, not good friends.

I was happy to see Mr. Epidural man come in the room, but when he realized Chris was the chief of Radiology it was all doctor talk and he could barely focus on me for a second. He even had to pause to take a call from a 'hot nurse' who he made plans with for that evening and then came running back in the room later to dig through the trash so he could find her number which was scribbled on a sterile glove container. He was amusing but it took longer to get the whole thing going than we had hoped. Luckily I was not having contractions through this whole thing or I would have really been ticked.

The epidural ended up working about 75 percent. My legs were entirely numb but a patch by my left pelvis could feel everything and I didn't like it a bit. It got increasingly painful as I dilated... especially since I had to lay on that side the whole time (since Matthew couldn't stand being on the right). My blood pressure was low several times so I wore an oxygen mask most of the day. Chris brought the chair over to the left side of the bed so he could talk to me and distract me through the constant contraction.

You would think that having done this so many times I wouldn't have been so nervous, but I think it's because I've done this so many times that I was so nervous. Because of the pain I was a bit impatient waiting for the go-ahead to start pushing. I called the doctor in and asked her if I could just start pushing now. I was at a 10 but he still needed to come down a little. I gave a couple of good first pushes and as soon as he moved down a little he stretched out his long legs right into my left rib. All my subsequent pushes were not nearly so effective. I could hardly breathe between pushes and needed longer to rest in between. 25 minutes of pushing and he was out. What an amazing feeling that is. I actually like the pushing part - minus the pain in the ribs, that is. It is pretty exhilarating.

Little Matthew was cleaned up and weighted. Chris took pictures while I watched from a distance... blissfully happy and pain free. I did it. Six times I did it. And now I'm done.

Ya, it's not pretty but it is me... about to explode. We can't wait till tomorrow.

Big Sister Rules

I had to laugh when I found this piece of paper with a list of Katie's 'Big Sister Rules'.

1. Give your attention to the little kids.
2. Let them pick the game.
3. Help them with homework, drawings and everything else.
4. Try to do everything their way.
5. You can laugh at them but sometimes you might not want to do it in front of them.
6. Make sure they're away if you are doing something fun without them.
7. Deal with their screaming, crying, tooting and burping.

What a great big sister you are, Katie! You'll have one more of them to deal with tomorrow!

Emily's Big News

This morning Emily woke me up saying that her tooth was hurting a little. I peered into her mouth and sure enough one of her bottom teeth was loose. We've never had a Kindergartener with a wiggly tooth! She was so thrilled.

All day long Katie shared her enthusiasm and Megan kept having me check her mouth as well. By bedtime Katie had convinced Emily that by just brushing her teeth it might fall out. Katie oversaw the whole thing, even being careful to plug up the sink so it wouldn't go down the drain...

All of a sudden screams of delight came from upstairs. The tooth was out. Blood had dripped onto her shirt and the sink and Megan started to get a little panicked... rethinking her own desire to have a loose tooth. I could hear Katie calm Megan down by saying, "Megan, it's OK, it happens to everyone." Isn't it nice to have a big sister who's been through everything before you?

Emily ran for the Tooth Fairy Book that Grandma Walton had given her for her birthday. Perfect timing! She found the purple velvet tooth holder, cleaned off her tiny tooth and put it under her pillow all the while jumping up and down and smiling.

Even better, she knew exactly what she was going to show for Kindergarten show and tell tomorrow... her new smile.

Ready and waiting

This newborn crib is an heirloom.

My father's parents received it from friends in Alberta, Canada in 1949 right before my dad was born, 60 years ago. (Grandma, I can't remember if you told me it was new or used then?!) They used it for each of their five children and then passed it on to my parents right before I was born. Each of my five siblings and I spent our newborn nights here. I can even remember where it was in my parents room, in the house we grew up in, when my younger brothers were born.

Right before I had Ryan, the crib was passed on to me and I have loved having it. Each of our children have slept in it. Ryan in Provo and Maryland. Katie in Maryland. Emily and Megan in Washington. Luke in Georgia.

And just last week Chris set it up again. He says this crib has seen it's last days. He says it looks old.

But I love it. I love that it has been painted and repainted and repainted. I love it's history. I love that my dad, my kids and I have shared our newborn slumbers within the same white slats. I love the connection. I love the tradition.

And believe me, I am counting down the days till we can put our sixth sweet baby in this little crib.

Expiration Date

I've been waiting for this day for a long time. The day my milk would have the same expiration date as my pregnancy!

Letters to the Baby

Tonight for family home evening we wrote letters to the new baby. They are all ready for the kids to bring them to the hospital and read them to him after he is born. We did this for baby Megan and baby Luke. Such a fun tradition... of course I couldn't help but cry when the kids read their finished letters to us.

Dear Baby Brother,
  • You are going to love our family. It is wonderful. You will like how we watch family movies. You are awesome...even though I haven't seen you. When you are old enough you will love Harry Potter and even older, Lord of the Rings. You will love (as every boy does) video games. You will like church but you will scream. Our tradition (except Katie) is to love pasta. You will love Christmas. You will get a bunch + 5 presents. I hope you have greenish-blue eyes like me. We will go on a Disney world vacation when you are 5 months old. You will love the small rides. I hope you love Pokemon. We have been waiting for you for 9 months to see you. I hope you are smaller than I was (7 pounds 2 ounces). I am going on a trip in 2 days but don't worry, I'll be back for your birth. I love you so much.
Love Ryan - age 10

Dear Baby Brother,
  • I've waited to see you for 9 months! I know you are going to be so cute! I can't wait for you to be born. I don't care if you are big (like Luke was) or small (like Ryan was). I know, no matter what, you are going to be a wonderful, marvelous, awesome, fantastic and spectacular little brother. You are going to love being a Johnson kid. We laugh a lot and do very fun things like go out to dinner, go on vacations and see family. At church you will be used to having me or Ryan take you for a walk around the church. Something that runs in our family is being a good reader... so you should practice your reading skills. You are going to love Mom. She is so sweet, fun, happy, faithful, motherly and she has a good attitude. Of course you are going to love Dad too. He is very faithful, fatherly helpful, kind and brave. PS: In about 5 months we are going to Disney world with you. A lot of the time you will be in my arms. You are going to ruin Luke's spoilness, so have fun with it. Love you so much. See you soon.

Love Katie - age 8

Dear Baby Brother,
  • I was so excited for you to come out. You are so cute. We are going to always play house. I am going to feed you when you are Luke's age if I'm allowed to. You will love our family. We like to do family home evening. Also we like to go on family walks and vacations. I am going to play with you and Luke in your room. I hope you have a fun time at our house. We are going to be going to go to Disney world when you are about 5 months old. I can't wait to play with you. You are very flexible.
Love Emily - age 6

Dear Baby Brother,

  • You need to know the names of our family... Lukey and Megan and Emily and Katie and Ryan and Mommy and Daddy. You need to know our cousins names... Molly, Leah, Annie, Foster, Tyler, Spencer, Kayla, Haylee and Derek. I'm going to help you walk and show you the house in the family room and the living room and all the stuff. I can't wait to see you! I'm going to come to the hospital to see you. I'm so glad to see you. You are the cutest person that I'm ever going to have. You are going to love the toy I give you. You will love to play Duck, Duck, Goose. I hope you have a great time at our house. I will give you a present when it's your birthday. I'm going to show you our car. I love you when you are going to walk. I hope you love Lukey's toys. I hope you be nice. Daddy is going to kiss and hug you. And Katie is going to give a bottle to you. Ryan is going to share his toys with you. I'm going to try and make you climb up the stairs like Lukey.
Love Megan - age 4

Luke at 17 months old

Luke weighs 27 pounds on our bathroom scale.

Luke wears 2T clothes and size 5 1/2 shoes.

Luke actually likes to hold one of his blankets after nap time. I think it's cute but don't like retrieving blankets from all over the house so usually distract him while I lay it back in his crib. He still goes to sleep with a pacifier... something I allowed because of my impatience and lack of energy this pregnancy... (my younger self would cringe knowing he's this old and still uses one for bed and Sacrament meeting). He and Ryan have been my only two who really liked their soothers. Maybe it's a Johnson boy thing.

Luke eats most things by himself these days. He loves getting the plastic bowl and little spoon on his high chair tray. Occasionally he flings mash potatoes on the wall or tries to eat chicken noodle soup with his fingers... I didn't mean he was great at it, but he's getting better.

Luke loves all kinds of drinks. Sippy cups and straight out of Mom and Dad's cup. He's a remarkably good drinker.

Luke says all kinds of things now... bubble, Mamma, Dad or Dadda, Ry-Ry, 'ssss' (which usually means horse but could also mean other things with an 's' in it), all-da (all-done), A-me (amen), bap (bath), ball, hi, nak (snack), ca-ker (cracker), NO, bee, bir (bird), Melmo (Elmo), eye, no (nose), hay (hair), side (outside -- which he says with great passion) and probably a ton more that I can't remember right now.

Luke answers NO to almost every question. When I know it's something he really does want then I'll say "say YES" to which he excitedly nods his head up and down. Now sometimes he answers with a loud NO and then proceeds to nod his head YES. He's very confused.

Luke does the funniest things at dinnertime when he has every one's attention. The funniest is when he nods his head all the way down but keeps his eyes looking up. When we all start laughing then he does too. He's so amused with himself.

Luke waves 'hi' and 'bye-bye' to everyone he sees.

Luke loves his '10 Little Ladybugs' book and his Sesame Street books.

Luke roars like a lion, makes a good elephant sound, barks like a dog, tries to neigh for a horse, does a cute quack for a duck, and makes an almost silent buzzing sound as he tries to 'get you' with his bee. He says 'BOOOO' when he holds up his cow and the kids always laugh.

Luke likes to watch only the Elmo parts of Sesame Street. He laughs and points to the screen every time Elmo comes on.

Luke loves his big brother. He is the most excited to see and run to Ryan when he gets off the bus. The girls have learned to live with it and consequently they sprint from the bus so they can get a big excited hug before he spots Ryan. Sometimes he runs right around him because he knows Ryan is coming.

Luke gives lots of hugs and kisses... on his terms only of course. He hugs and pats your back and likes to take turns kissing everyone in the family. He loves to blow kisses too.

Luke gets very excited for our family handshake after family prayer.

Luke folds his arms for the first couple seconds of every prayer and says 'a-me' happily at the end.

Luke loves a bath, loves splashing, loves getting other people wet.

Luke loves throwing balls, playing outside, swinging on the swings, jumping on the trampoline, playing with bubbles, playing with his cars...

Luke runs to a wall and dramatically puts his arms up and leans into his arms and the wall when he wants something but you can't figure it out. He acts so distressed that it makes us all laugh. Then he looks at us to see if you are still watching and does it again for effect.

Luke loves to climb to the top of Emily's bunk bed. Often when I haven't heard him for awhile I will go to the bottom of the stairs and say 'Luke' and he'll answer with his distressed yell which tells me he's stuck and can't get back down. Most times we try to remember to take the ladder down so he can't climb up.

Luke has been known to play in the toilet water. Lovely.

Luke is apparently allergic to some foods as he gets a rash around his mouth after eating some things... we are still trying to determine what these things all. Tomatoes seem to do it. So does yogurt.

Luke loves to get his shoes and socks on because he thinks he's going outside.

Luke runs for the basket of basketballs in the garage every time he gets out of the van. He likes to pick up each one and throw them into the garage. We try to pick them all up again but Chris often has to get out of his car and finish the job before he can park in the garage

Luke is generally horrible in Sacrament meeting. He likes to wiggle around, call out to Dad, yell 'brea' (bread) and army crawl under my feet to get into the isle. He is totally taking advantage of my no-lap and inability to bend over. Only 5 more Sundays till he can go to nursery. Chris had Luke with him when he went in there the other week to take care of some primary business... and Luke's eyes got wide with curiosity. He had no idea there was a room full of little kids and fun toys. Chris said he was definitely mad when they walked out.

Luke loves dirt, rocks, sticks, puddles, mud and again, dirt.

Luke loves our classic family baby songs such as, "Here's a Ball for Baby", "Horsie, Horsie", "This is the Way", and "Twinkle, Twinkle."

Luke can point to his eyes, nose, ears, hair, toes, and belly button. He's been doing these for awhile... we need to work on some more body parts!

Luke likes to tackle other kids. When his siblings are already lying on the floor he likes to come up and fall on top of them. Some of his siblings like this and some of them don't (Emily.)

Luke was driving with me the other day when I said, "Luke, can I still call you baby Lukey when your little brother is born?" to which he responded with a loud firm 'NO!' We'll see about that.

Getting ready for a kiss. Love it.

5 things

5 things I did yesterday...

  • Played Mormon taboo with Chris, Ryan and Katie - and had so much fun. Lots of giggling-- our favorite was when Katie said 'where you got married that's named after a shape'... 'Temple Square"
  • Had turkey, potatoes & gravy, Sparkling Apple Cider, and creamed corn for dinner in the dining room
  • Spent most of Sacrament meeting in the foyer with Luke because he is crazy and loud and points at Dad the whole time... plus he tries to army crawl under my legs because he knows I can't bend over.
  • Handed out PIG OUT PJ invites to all my YW for a PJ'S party at my house on Wednesday (P: Personal progress, J: Journal, S: Scriptures)
  • Ate cheesecake with Chris after the kids went to bed

5 things I did today...

  • Called my auto insurance company to report a claim... we hit a deer on Saturday night (so scary) and my now white trash van has a dented grill, bumper and a headlight dangling by a wire. My deductable is only $100... so excited about that.
  • Cleaned up the mess Luke made by digging his fingers into a big red candle and smearing wax into his hair, shirt and my bed.
  • Went outside with Megan and Luke and watched them jump on the trampoline and swing on the swings
  • Made thank you cards and attached them to the teacher gifts to give to the kids teachers at the end of the school year... (I'm not going to want to do it after the baby comes)
  • Washed and dried four loads of laundry... all ready for the kids to fold when they get home from school

5 things I will do tomorrow...

  • Teach preschool for Megan and her buddies... theme: birds and spring (my second last day of teaching.. yeah!)
  • Have another appointment with Dr. Burchart, my fabulous OB and go downstairs to visit Chris at his office.
  • Take Katie, Emily and Megan to gymnastics at 6:00
  • Get Chris to get down some of the baby things from the attic so I can clean them
  • Watch American Idol with Chris after the kids go to bed

Service Shower

I thought our Young Women's activity this week was a service project to help an elderly lady with her garden. Another leader asked if we could meet at my house since it was close by. Well, a gardening service project it was not. Once everyone was gathered they informed me it was a surprise baby shower and instead of baby clothes they were giving me gifts of service. The young women all made cards explaining their gifts... cleaning my base boards, washing my windows, cleaning my kitchen, ironing clothes and even FREE babysitting coupons!!! A special thanks to all my girls and fellow leaders for planning this special night. You guys are awesome!!!

Easter Timelines

On Easter Sunday we watched a DVD of Christ's life, miracles, death and Resurrection. Then we read a great Children's book entitled '3 Days of Darkness - a Nephite Easter Story'. And then we made time lines. We sat at the table and I drew one piece at a time while the kids copied. It helped us remember what happened in each side of the world during Christ's life and death and keep it all straight. They loved it and were eager to make their time lines perfect.

On Monday night for FHE I handed each kid a blank piece of paper and sent them to a different table in the house. Without any review they were to recreate their timeline. They all came back practically perfect... some with extra details and cute pictures. (see below) We dated them and added them to our Family Home Evening binder.

On Tuesday when Emily got home from Kindergarten she opened her backpack and handed me a new copy of her timeline with an extra photocopy. She said she drew it at school in free time and that her teacher liked it so much she made copies so she and the teacher's assistant could keep one. Emily asked for an extra copy so she could send one to her grandma. When Emily's teacher saw me a couple days later she said she was so impressed with Emily's timeline that she decided to share her project and have Emily explain it to the whole class. How fun for Emily to be a Missionary in her Kindergarten class!

Spring Break

Spring break came and went without much excitement. I'm too close to the end of my pregnancy to really go anywhere so although it kind of felt like a waste of good vacation time, anything but staying home sounded utterly exhausting.

So we stayed home, slept in, and mostly played around the house. As seemingly boring as it was, the kids were thrilled with all the at-home time. Finally enough time to play house, play Wii, play store, play playdoh, play 'doggies', jump on the trampoline, have picnics in the backyard, draw pictures, play 'mommies', play cars with Luke, watch movies, play Lego, play dress-up, play made up pokemon games, (do jobs) and then do it all again the next day. When I suggested an outing one day I totally got outvoted. They just wanted to stay home and play.

My brother reminded me that that's how most of our Spring Breaks were spent... just playing... and come to think of it, it was wonderful.

Normal life starts again today. School, CRCT testing, Ballet, Soccer, Gymnastics, Pre-school, Achievement Days, Cub Scouts, YW activities... Life. And the kids are dreading it... Can't we just all stay home and play?

Easter Eggs

We haven't colored Easter eggs for years. I don't know why, we just haven't, so when I pulled out the stuff to do it today the kids thought it was a special treat... all except Megan who was actually a little suspicious of the whole process. 'Mom, what are you doing?' she asked. 'We're going to color Easter eggs.' I responded to her confused face. When I got the bowl of hard boiled eggs she said, "Um, Mom, these are REAL eggs! And they even SMELL like real eggs." Yes, real eggs, but I did have to tell her several times that the dye was NOT real koolaid.

April 6, 2009

After much debate and many changes, Megan finally decided a couple weeks ago that she wanted a Tinkerbell party for her fourth birthday. She picked out purple and green Tinkerbell plates and cups and then stickers for her gift tags. The big kids and I had everything decorated last night ready for today. Then we borrowed Emily's tinkerbell figurines and added them to the very not professional cake. Walla... a perfect Tinkerbell party and one very content little four year old.

Megan loved her presents... a shirt, two pair of socks, a front pack for her baby and a new baby boy doll. (She's been dressing up her doll in boyish clothes and calling him a boy for a month now so I thought I'd add a real boy to her doll family... and soon both of us will be playing with our baby boys.) Thank you to G&G Johnson and everyone who spoiled her at her Utah birthday party and to G&G Walton for her birthday package.

Conference

Katie's picture of the four of us watching Conference together. We had a great Conference weekend and enjoyed every session. The kids worked on their Conference packets and I sat and relaxed in the corner of the couch just as this picture shows. It was relatively quiet but we would have rather been watching with the rest of the family. We can't wait to see them tonight.

Between Sessions

We went to Cooper Creek Park between sessions. The kids rode their scooters for awhile and then they played on the playground. Our last 'big kid' adventure... for a while.

5 weeks left

The other day my Pest Control guy came to spray. When I opened the door he stared at my stomach and said, "Now when are you due again?" "In five weeks" I declared happily. Then he said, "Boy, I would have said any hour!"

Well, OK then -- I think that last sentence should have been just thought instead of said but since those words actually came out of his mouth it qualifies as the 'best' blunt pregnancy remark I've ever received. Up until this week the winning comment was from a crazy High Priest from my Washington Ward who said... "You just get bigger and bigger every time I see you!" (Still love that one.)

This and a couple of 'I swear you're going to pop any second' comments has made for rough week. But not only is the world noticing I'm nearing the end, I'm feeling it too. Back pain, waddling, swelling in my face, nose, hands and feet (oh and butt) and a really ridiculous not-so-graceful 'getting out of bed' routine remind me that I am only five weeks away.

Help me celebrate my 'five weeks left' by telling me your worst pregnancy comment story... Let's see if you can top mine!

Snack Time

I miss my buddy. I took these pictures last week. Lately I've been giving Luke a spoon and letting him have at it. Is this mess really worth 30 minutes of Happy Lukey while I make dinner? Absolutely.
