We had a couple places in mind for our last 4 day weekend trip in Europe. We debated between Amsterdam, (which we hadn’t been to even though we’ve been nearby in the Netherlands) and Portugal (for some warmer weather) but when it came down to it, we weren’t excited to plan either of them. Seriously, after three years of tons of trips I think we were just worn out. The last couple months of moving-prep has taken it’s toll on our free time. When our good friends said they were heading down to Oberammergau (close to Garmisch in Bavaria) it sounded perfected and we pretty much invited ourselves along. We had a GREAT weekend despite the rain AND SNOW. My goodness… it’s supposed to be SPRING! It’s the end of May! We played games, went to the local indoor swimming pool and sat outside in the hot tub, watched a huge European soccer game, ate treats, went to church in Munich, hiked the gorge in Garmisch, had a picnic, and had so much fun talking with our friends. It was the perfect 4 day to end with. Thanks for the great time, friends!

Outside church in Munich... We really enjoyed church. It was an English speaking ‘International Ward’ which was having it’s ward conference. Great talks and a great spirit.
Hiking the Gorge…
This was our third or fourth time hiking the gorge but it’s so fun – we just keep doing it.
The House… We stayed in the cutest Bavarian house owned by a couple named ‘the Killers’. Our friends had stayed there multiple times and loved it. It was quaint, Bavarian, walking distance to the center of town and just perfect. I just couldn’t get over the size of the key to our apartment. Every time Chris pulled it out of his pocket, it just made me laugh.

Walk into Town… The main streets of Oberammergau are just so cute… it’s just a picturesque Bavarian town with colorful shutters, painted murals on all of the walls, and flowers everywhere. It was fun to walk the couple blocks to the city center, shop in some of the stores, check out the wood carvings, pick out candy at the candy store, eat gelato and wander through town.

Picnic and little Hike…
We walked along this little river until we came to the horses. Then the girls picked flowers… I love that picture of Emily and Aly…. such good friends.
Sam and Chris went and got crusty bread, salami, European Fanta and magnum bars for lunch…. so typical of what we love to eat for lunches here.
On the other side of the street we hiked up a little trail to a cave.
Bavaria was our first trip in Europe… and now our last. Just perfect.
